1. **Light:** Place the staghorn fern in a bright location, but out of direct sunlight. She prefers filtered or indirect light.
2. **Temperature:** Maintain a constant temperature between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid sudden temperature changes.
3. **Humidity:** Staghorn ferns prefer high humidity. Spray the fronds regularly with water to simulate the humid environment to which they are adapted.
4. **Watering:** Water the plant regularly to keep the substrate constantly moist. However, be careful not to let the water stagnate in the lower part of the shields (the hard parts at the base of the plant).
5. **Support:** Mount the staghorn fern on a board or hang it with a rope. It can be grown as an epiphytic plant.
6. **Feeding:** Provide a balanced fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) about once a month. Reduce the frequency during the winter season.
7. **Sizing:** Remove dry or damaged fronds as you go. If necessary, divide the plant when it becomes too large.
8. **Substrate:** Use a well-draining substrate, such as a mixture of pine bark, sphagnum moss and perlite.
9. **Protection against the cold:** If the temperature drops below 10°C, protect the plant against the cold. It can be grown indoors in regions with cold winters.
10. **Rest Period:** The staghorn fern can enter a rest period during the winter. Reduce watering slightly during this period.
By following these care tips, you should be able to successfully grow your Platycerium bifurcatum. It is always recommended to monitor the plant carefully and make adjustments based on its specific needs.
